Raise aspirations. Increase opportunities. Change young lives. Making The Leap’s ethos was accomplished on Thursday 21st July, when we hosted our first Alumni event to an astounding turnout with a room full of corporate professionals, fellows, and newly graduated associates.

Our event took place at PwC’s Embankment office which meant the night encapsulated its ambitious and diverse surroundings in the city of enterprise.

As part of the Fellows Board, I had the wonderful opportunity of helping to organise the event, and the reward of seeing young people interact and network with each other, share their dreams and goals, was incredible. I had the pleasure of meeting people who had travelled and lived abroad, had studied for a degree, had ideas for creating their own business, which shows how individual, creative, and motivated our alumni are.

Fellows Board members Will and Nkem opened the event and addressed the audience on how Making The Leap has transformed young people’s lives and how important it was to celebrate this achievement. We premiered our new film, and everyone participated in ‘People Bingo’, a game which encouraged us all to network, socialise, and get to know each other.

Chief Executive Tunde Banjoko OBE gave a touching speech thanking Board Secretary, Zahra Hdidou and the Board for the event. We were also lucky to be joined by representatives of companies such as Pentland Brands Limited, Fremantle and the Civil Service, who mingled with the Fellows.

We were witnesses to the strengthening bond between Making The Leap and its alumni. I cannot wait to see more events where young people are not only given a platform for their voice, but where they can see the positive outcome of passing on their experiences to the groups that will follow in their footsteps.
